But I'm just an average Aussie with no special education qualifications, I hold no position of power or authority and am very unlikely to sway public opinion because of my profile, so when high profile individuals make commentary then they do influence others to follow their lead.

I don't care much for either side of politics because as you pointed out I have inherent human frailties, but those in positions of power should be able to rise above the general population. To think other wise would be to admit that education, wealth, position, power does not lead to a higher caliber of person, and no-one is better than anyone else? Big call!
