well - in fact, thanks for bringing it up ------

Migrant border crossings in the U.S. have recently reached a significant low. In June 2024, the U.S. Border Patrol processed approximately 84,000 migrants who crossed the U.S.-Mexico border without authorization. This figure represents the lowest monthly level since President Biden took office in January 2021, marking a three-year low in illegal crossings[1][3]. This decline follows a peak in February 2024, when there were 141,000 apprehensions[1].
The decrease in crossings is attributed to several factors, including President Biden's policy measures to restrict asylum and Mexico's efforts to deter northbound migration[1]. These measures include a partial asylum ban, which has led to a significant reduction in daily migrant apprehensions and a 60% decrease in migrant releases[1]. Additionally, Mexico has increased efforts to curb migration by deporting individuals to southern Mexico and preventing migrants from boarding transportation[1].
While the current numbers are low compared to recent years, it is important to note that December 2023 saw a record high of nearly 250,000 encounters at the U.S.-Mexico border, the highest monthly total on record[2][4]. The sharp decline in crossings since then is unusual, as migration typically increases from winter to spring[4].
