The location of manufacturing has a lot to do with the logistics and quality of the product being manufactured. If you consider things like bulk and perishability then often it's not feasible and/or economic to manufacture overseas.
The next thing is quality and brand. Do you own a Chinese watch? What about luxury car? Their own population don't trust the baby formula and would crawl over a desert of rusty razor blades for a Louis Vuitton bag.
We're not going to beat the Chinese selling $5 toasters at K-Mart, but there are many areas where we can manufacture better, smarter and with less staff.
Having said all that, the real value to me in what we're sitting on here comes from the massive and expanding Chinese wealthy and middle class. The ones who own the Louis Vuitton bags, or aspire to do so. They want their filthy air quality improved (you guys been there? it's horrible) and they want good reliable clean power - and that's what we can provide, by the bucket load.
