flemster - Qantas, you are probably aware that I have been watching this one . the government are in a bind about guaranteeing their debt now as they have to appear to be even handed particularly with virgin's poor results.
the senate I hear is unlikely to approve change to the current ownership restrictions. new or old senate - I am not sure. and the eventual senate composition is still probably up in the air too with your lot over there loosing all those ballot papers.
so what I am saying is that Qantas's only real saviour would be an overseas airline taking a financial interest in the company.
I heard a news item saying analysts consider Qantas is still in real trouble regardless of the debt being quarranteed as the funding they will require in the near future is enormous. so maybe there is still a possibility of a play there.
