Newland Resources hits thick multi-seam coal package at Comet Ridge
Friday, March 25, 2011 by John Phillips
Newland Resources (ASX: NRL) has discovered some significant coal intersections in maiden drilling at the Comet Ridge Project within the highly prospective Bowen Basin in Queensland.
Importantly with the discovery Newland said there is potential for a coking coal product with raw CSN values of up to 8.5.
The multi-seam coal package has sections up to 14 metres thick, is near surface and extends over a strike of 5 kilometres.
A second coal seam ranging from 1 to 3 metres in thickness was intersected some 25 metres below the main coal seam horizon.
Exploration included 25 holes for 2805 metres over an area of 100 square kilometres, with 17 of the holes intersecting the multi-ply coal seam ranging from 5 to 14 metres in thickness from 15 to 120 metres.
The next step for Newland is to continue infill drilling which will be conducted in the next couple of months, which will help define the depth of the weathering sub-crop and extent of the coal seams.
This will enable a maiden JORC Resource estimate for the southern portion of the Comet Ridge.
