Successive governments (tho Albo seems to be the worst so far) have neglected Australia's manufacturing and mining value added sectors for decades. With China's cost of labor no longer the cheapest, one pillar of their advantage has fallen, the other is sunk cost. Australia could (and should be) onshore some of the processing to create jobs and income further up the supply chain instead of sending everything offshore then buying it back later.
