yeah the government should never have forced the death of auto manufacturing industry here, that was a big mistake and destroyed all sorts of manufacturing and engineering skills in the economy. Globally all auto manufacturing is subsidised by governments of the respective countries in one form or another. I was unaware until recently that Holden had actually designed hybrids and EVs and had at least one driveable prototype that they developed with CSIRO back in 2000. I was a teenager back then and wasn't an avid follower of cars but it's disappointing to know this now, what a wasted opportunity.
