IMO, its best for all countries to live within their borders,
trade fairly and respect the territorial rights of others.
As such countries can compete fairly within global markets.
IMO if China does that then we have little to fear from it.
We invite interference from outsiders by allowing foreigners
to buy Australian assets, particularly mining assets & farm land.
At present we are at the beck & call of the USA. US entities
dominate some of our major businesses eg:
https://www.news.com.au/finance/business/us-ownership-of-australias-biggest-companies/news-story/5e0361d3e4433be0c4c1c40c8254cac1
Add to that our dependance on the USA for national Security and
we are , by definition, dependant on the USA both militarily & economically.
Fortunatley we have been more vigilant in allowing China similar leeway
but we have allowed Aus to be more dependant on China in trade of which
we are now receiving the wrong end of the pineapple
We have idiots parading up and down Sydney & Melbourne protesting
the curtailment of their personal freedom of movement due to covid lockdowns,
but those same protesters are like fish in a bowl when it comes to Australia's
economic & political liberties being curtailed by a mountain of debt,
foreign ownership of our resources & land and being over China's trade barrel.
IMO this is the big issue, not a few weeks lockdown for general health benefits.
