We im sorry but it is a requirement at this point, the grid can only take 60-80% of renewable energy so a base load is needed and hydrogen is our best technological viable option. The excess renewable energy is then used to create hydrogen as you can build as much renewable as you want but we can still only use so much.
That energy loss will become better as time and R&D development happens, but the grid cannot be supplied more power to cover its short fall of base load.
