I don't think its a blander, have a look at the amount of large car companies are developing hydrogen pve's at the same rate as ev's (Toyota, BMW, Hyundai, Nissan) as the future isn't in ev's until a new battery technology comes along at current its not sustainable. Hydrogen is the fuel of the future for base load and heavy industries (trains, trucks, diggers, ships, servers) as we don't have a better technology yet, hydrogen is viable.
the real questions are how do we ship it?
How do we creat large quantities while using renewables?
I saw a few years ago an German company was developing a solar panel that also created hydrogen with the excess for households, so solar during the day and hydrogen generator at nigh to top up your battery system along with filling up your car when you get home.
