Tonight (our time) sees the first settlement of the credit default swaps arising out of the Lehman Bros collapse. Best guesses put the losses for the sellers of the insurance at up to 90% of $400 billion.
Banks and other institutions all over the world have exposure, not just in the U.S., including some of our own.
We might yet see a few more big down days while this whole thing unwinds. Possible we could get closer to 3000 points than 4000 before this thing bottoms out.
