"A pole with a few wireless transmitters is somehow going to cost more than fibre optic cable to every house within a kilometre of two?"

below is a link to a where a da can be found for a pole with a few wireless transmitters

    http://www.tamworth.nsw.gov.au/Planning-and-Development/Development-Application-Tracking/Accepted-Development-Applications/default.aspx?retain=true&PagingModule=2131&Pg=4

just go to the bit for da's for week ending 9/12/11

or you can just believe what I pasted below - 200K for that pole. now multiply that by your idea to have one at every one of the 50 to 60 thousand nodes FTTN requires. And just google to find out the amount of people whinging about the nbn towers going up in there area as is.

and jantimot no I don't envisage that data need, but it was you that was holding up the sample of the maximum known speed achieved in a lab for wireless transmission to support your case. I just wanted to illustrate the difference between them both. Neither is commercial yet you are prepared to use one to support a case.

mobile for the last mile is neither cost effective, practical or achievable in our nimby society. If we get stuck with fibre to the node we will just have to put up with crappy old copper (better speed than I have now but hardly worth the effort)

FTTN + copper, bringing yesterdays technology to you tommorow
