Do you know anyone who uses the Dow theory for day or intra-day trading? I would love to meet them. The securities Institute information you’ve read would tell you that the lag time for the confirmation of the two indexes gives slippage on average of 20-25% of the trend. Dow himself used his theory to confirm whether he would be invested if the trends were up. Dow also believed the markets moved in cycles from emotional highs and lows every 5 to 6 years. By this very nature trend following systems like the Dow theory are for longer term investors like Dow, not for the majority of TRADERS on this forum.

Now if your talking about the principals of peaks and troughs for trading purposes, then this is called Swing trading not Dow theory. I still believe our society is vastly different today then 100 years ago when the Dow theory was formulated and thus has less significance.
