There are polls designed to get the answer you want. If I wanted to get an answer in favour of banning fossil fuel I would do this.

1.Carry out the poll avoiding areas where coal mining was supporting the population.
2. Carry out the poll in areas where there was an air pollution (cities with plenty of road traffic.
3. Select a time when workers were at work busy earning a living.
4. Concentrate in the "posh" areas. eg. Turnbull's neighbourhood.
5. Design the questions so that you are most likely to get the result required. eg;
a. Are you in favour of reducing carbon emissions.
b. Are you in favour of reducing carbon emissions if it going to double the price of your electricity.
6,7,8,9,10. Along similar lines.

You dont have to wait until after dark to watck SKY news to see another side of the coal mining debate. They had a very interesting program yesterday on coal mining, how modern mining is carried out, how it supports a community, the quality of our coal, the importance it is to the community etc.

I agree with the notion the poll questions I have been asked are inherently skewed towards psychometric testing rather than simple answers to simple questions. It becomes a fox and hound session, where trust is low, the answers are couched and qualified to negate the couched obtuse questions.

As electors become less welded to parties, I think the pollster algorithms will have a hard time keeping up with a widening mean deviation of voter intent.
