    yes rent increases is a very serious problem, very difficult for any Govt to manage..... unless they want to go down the path of autocratic restrictions on rental rates.

    my eldest stepson is on disability support. we've been having to assist him for months, almost a year. but now his benefits have increased and prices have stabilised he's doing much better. he's also reined in some of his fave "indulgences" as he refers to his habit of eating out.... too bloomin' limited to learn to cook.

    as for supermarkets, the gov has instigated an ACCC investigation which will monitor supermarket prices for 12 months. what more could they do? would you prefer the gov place restrictions on food prices? how does that fit in a free market economy?

    yes the cost of inflation has been terrible. more people accessing charities for food and other items. even people working full time (low wages) have been forced to seek assistance with food expenses. but this has been a perennial problem over decades. you forgot to mention the increase in homelessness btw.
