I'm not going to profess to know what will happen. Especially during the Russian situation with Ukraine people expected things not to happen, not to go ahead, etc. But yet here we are years later.
But my general inclination is that we are at an inflection point in history. Where deferred action now where these entities are in the best position to act (as terrible a position as that may be) will result in an inevitable long term demise. So their best time is now. See with Russia who had a large, degrading soviet arsenal. If they deferred their invasion, their army and fleets would simply rust out. They needed to take action. Iran's situation similarly will likely not get better. They need to continue to act, even as they are being beaten up. We may see other countries take advantage of this continued global destabilisation.
We all assume things will just occur as they did in the past. Let's see how that plays out.
