Until Imperial Japan attacked Pearl Harbor they repeated what they did in WW1 - making hay by trading with everyone while the Sun shone.
That was followed by the US's creation of Israel, to which wealthy Americans have subsequently flocked in their millions and necessitating the theft of Palestinian territories.
