    Wyatt has luck in Hasluck.

    3.50pm

ABC election analyst Antony Green has called the Western Australian seat of Hasluck for the Liberals, putting the Coalition ahead of Labor by one seat.

The Coalition is now on 72 seats to Labor's 71, with the four independents and Greens MP set to become kingmakers in a new minority government after yesterday putting their demands to the major parties.

Liberal candidate Ken Wyatt will now become the first Indigenous person to take a seat in the House of Representatives after winning Hasluck from Sharryn Jackson.

Only the seats of Brisbane and Corangamite now remain in doubt with Labor ahead in Corangamite and the LNP ahead in Brisbane.

If they fall the way they are currently predicted that will put the Coalition on 73 seats to Labor's 72.

But Greens MP Adam Bandt has indicated he would side with Labor.

The three incumbent MPs - Tony Windsor, Rob Oakeshott and Bob Katter - have together put a set of demands to Julia Gillard and Tony Abbott as they consider which side to support.

However, the Independent MP for Denison, Andrew Wilkie, has vowed to act alone.

The three independents will be back in Canberra on Monday and hope to start formal negotiations on Friday September 3 when the final results will most likely be known.

    ALP surge halted in Brisbane.

    Daniel Hurst - August 25, 2010

Labor's chances of retaining the seat of Brisbane have nosedived with the Liberal National Party's Teresa Gambaro surging ahead in counting today.

After seeing her lead fall from 869 votes on Monday to 382 votes last night, Ms Gambaro was in danger of falling behind incumbent MP Arch Bevis.

But after winning more than 55 per cent of nearly 2800 postal votes counted today, the former Howard government MP has extended her lead to 684 votes.

An Australian Electoral Commission spokeswoman said an additional 1300 absentee votes and 600 early votes were also being counted today.

Although Ms Gambaro - the former Member for Petrie - remains favourite to win the seat, Mr Bevis said yesterday he had not given up hope of claiming an unlikely victory.

"Obviously you would rather not be in this situation, but thats the outcome of the vote on Saturday and you just take one day at a time," he told ABC Radio. "With such a large number of votes yet to be counted the margin is now that close that it may well be that [provisional votes] decide what happens in the Brisbane electorate."

About 1200 provisional votes are yet to be counted. Such a vote can be cast when the voter is not on the electoral role or cannot confirm their identity on polling day.

But anyone who cast a provisional vote needs to visit the electoral commission to have it validated by Friday.
