RIO Rio Tinto sells Ashton stake for $35m

Diversified miner Rio Tinto Ltd confirmed that it has sold its majority shareholding in Ashton Mining of Canada Inc, for $US26.1 million ($A34.8 million) and 25.6 million shares in purchaser Stornoway Diamond Corp.
Upon completion, Australia's second-largest miner will hold about 17.7 per cent of Stornoway's issued and outstanding common shares.
Rio Tinto says it currently has no interest in buying or selling Stornoway shares, but added the situation may change, depending on its evaluation of Stornoway's business, prospects and financial condition, the market for Stornoway's securities, general economic conditions and other factors.
In July, Rio Tinto said it would sell its stake in Ashton, a diamond explorer which has discovered three new diamond districts in Canada since 1993.
