wonder if this has anything to do with it? UK Coal seem to be looking for new activities to help them sort out their finances. What would be better than having two revenue streams not just the traditonal one?

UK Coal in £100m fundraising plan

The firm is the UK's largest coal producer
UK Coal has announced plans to raise £100m from investors as it tries to reduce its debt levels.

It runs Welbeck and Thoresby mines in Nottinghamshire, Kellingley in Yorkshire and Daw Mill in Warwickshire.

But it has struggled in the past year from falling coal prices and the poor performance of its property assets.

UK Coal said the funds would position it to "take advantage of longer-term opportunities in its mining and property activities".

Chairman David Jones said that the firm had suffered from production difficulties in some of its deep mines.

"Management has taken actions to address these issues, in particular investments to produce a modern, efficient mining business with substantial and economically accessible reserves," he said.

It had also struck new coal contracts on "significantly improved terms" from those it previously had.

UK Coal posted a pre-tax loss of £81.5m for the first six months of the year, compared with a loss of £9.9m, a year earlier.

The company produces about eight million tonnes of coal a year, 95% of which supplies four electricity customers - Scottish and Southern Energy, Drax, EDF and Eon.

It said it was one of the UK's largest brownfield site property developers - owning 43,500 acres across the UK - of which more than 3,500 acres were currently targets for developers.
