    This is a reason that I think that hate and fear is a primitive emotion - it can be manipulated by invoking irrational fears.

    This reaction to irrational fears was useful to us when we were still at an age at which we couldn't distinguish rational from irrational fears (our parents did no have a way to reason with us when they told us not to stick our fingers in a power plug - we had to just listen for our own survival).

    The inclination to react to an appeal to fears without resorting to rational reasoning seems to remain with us into adulthood - a primitive emotion?
