I've decided to share some high quality research of mine.

    The following is taken from:

"25 years of mineral exploration and discovery in Indonesia" by Theo M. van Leeuwena - P.T. Rio Tinto Indonesia

I've attached a summarised scanned copy of <10% pages to comply with copyright law but the original is linked at the bottom of the post.

The research paper contains the details of each mine located around the ETH deposit. As it turns out, ETH's leasehold lies right next to the Kelian deposit, mined by RIO until 2003 at an average 15 million tonnes per year ( i presume RIO wasn't too keen on exploring outside of their deposit due to the bad press they received from environmental problems). There are other significant deposits surrounding the area in central Borneo/kalimantan. Bre-x's fraud was commited in east kalimantan, far away from RIO and ETH's deposits.

These deposits are located in appendix 2 which I've included at the back.

The location of the ETH exploration site was taken from the ASX release which included longitudes and latitudes.

I've highlighted the most important sections in green.

    p. 71 (paper reference) Details of each mine as listed on map.

This paper was written in 1994, but as the negative feelings towards the location have likely prevented many exploration projects since then. This was the case with "East Asia minerals" which stopped mining in the late 90's following bre-x despite having 100 million tonnes at 1 gram. Since then they've recommenced drilling in Kalimantan. This illustrates the large negative psychological impacts bre-x has had over all mining projects on the island, despite the fact that there has been successful mines on the island for decades, in addition to many local/illegal Indonesian small scale miners.

Its understandable why this miner would have pulled out given some of the irrationally negative views on this forum just because Bre-X happened to occur on the same island, despite it being a very big island.
