I have read that shareholders who vote against what appears as excessive payouts to directors/CEOs may be acting against their own interests, in the end.

The payouts will still occur but not in a transparent way. In other words, a way around it will be found for the outcome they are looking for.

Couldn't help but be surprised by the mumbling of the Chairman at the OZL meeting that they would be making sure Owen would be rewarded via another means. Not sure whether that was defiance or whether he said this believing he was placating the shareholders at the meeting. Maybe it was beyond him to believe that many of us (perhaps the majority) were quietly cheering. Whatever the motive, the lack of sensitivity to the views of the shareholders was very disappointing, to put it mildly.
