Havilah’s Cobalt Strategy
For me, the two things that distinguish Oz Minerals from Havilah is the fact that we have a Cobalt Strategy and also booked a JORC resource for Cobalt (at Mutooroo).
At Mutooroo, the booked JORC resource is 17.5 million kgs of Cobalt. There is scope to materially increase the JORC resource base by up to 3 times for this project, as only approximately 700 metres of the known 2,100 metres of strike has been drilled to JORC resource status by Havilah.
With the predicted Cobalt demand now materialising, it is up to HAV Management to develop the 3 most advanced projects (Kalkaroo, Mutooroo and North Portia) for HAV to become a substantial Cobalt producer.
The good news is that the undeveloped copper sulphide deposits at our 3 advanced projects (Kalkaroo, Mutooroo and North Portia) all contain appreciable quantities of cobaltian pyrite, an iron sulphide mineral that has a high Cobalt content.
This favourable geological characteristic of the Curnamona Province, related to the genesis of mineralisation, is that almost all pyrite in the region contains significant associated Cobalt.
IMO, there is much more upside to come from the Cobalt Strategy, given the majority of Havilah's mineral tenements are in the Curnamona Province. The Curnamona Province has the potential to become a major world class cobalt location for Apple and/or Tesla.
"Mutooroo is South Australia's only JORC Cobalt resource and Havilah plans to fast track permitting and development of the project.
Stage 1 will involve producing a Copper and Cobalt concentrate.
Stage 2 (which involves more capital) would aim to utilise the Iron Sulphide as feed stock for a Sulphuric Acid plant."
IMLTHO, Stage 1 above is a sure thing. Stage 2 is a maybe, at this time, unless the South Australian Government, Apple, Tesla and/or Olympic Dam come to the party.
Cheers
