The most significant driver of cobalt demand remains lithium-ion batteries. Consumer electronics, Electric Vehicles ('EV') and Energy Storage Systems ('ESS') are the dominant uses for lithium-ion batteries.


As Havilah stated in its Cobalt Mail Chimp yesterday:
The EV revolution is ushering in a golden age for battery raw materials. The increasing trend toward EVs has added to the impetus to ensure that a reliable and ethical supply of refined copper, REE and cobalt is available for use in EV components. Havilah believes it is well positioned to benefit in the short to medium-term from this trend.

In addition, the growing need for energy storage is increasing the interest in cobalt, notwithstanding the variety of battery technologies.

After retreating from the spotlight over the past 2 years, cobalt is making a comeback as potential producers and explorers seek to benefit from a fresh upsurge in demand and stronger cobalt prices.

Havilah's copper story is enhanced by cobalt as there are appreciable quantities of the metal in Havilah’s copper resources, particularly at the Kalkaroo and Mutooroo deposits. Havilah's medium-term strategy could see cobalt as a valuable by-product from its copper sulphide mining operations.
