Cyril Rioli is a late out for the Hawks
HAWTHORN star Cyril Rioli is out of Friday night's qualifying final with the Sydney Swans.
Rioli had been under a fitness cloud all week after missing last week's clash with the Swans with an ankle injury.
He was replaced by midfielder Liam Shiels, with speedster Jed Anderson starting as Hawthorn's substitute.
The Swans remain as selected, with Lewis Jetta to start in the green vest in his first game since round 10.
Rioli was named by Hawthorn on Thursday night, but earlier that day coach Alastair Clarkson said the club would take no risks with the scintillating half-forward if he did not pull up well from his running session.
It is a significant blow for the Hawks, who are already without suspended spearhead Lance Franklin.
Franklin received a one-match ban for a high bump on Swan Nick Malceski last week at ANZ Stadium.
Clarkson said this week the Hawks, who are on a four-game winning streak, were ready for the Swans.
"We've had a great preparation. Our last couple of games, Kangaroos and Sydney (wins by 14 points and 12 points) have been really good finals-preparation games and we feel like we're as well-prepared as we can be," Clarkson said.
