1. From my perspective the 'Proof of Concept' test has already been demonstrated with the Open Loop circulation test. What new principle will the Closed Loop test prove? The only difference is that a bit of extra plumbing (heavy surface pipe) has been installed as well as a heat exchanger. Can this fail to work? When people can visualize a circulating loop of water it makes for better publicity of course, and GDY certainly wants to be able to hang a nice label to the project at the end of Stage One as, "Concept Proved!"
In addition, it is only the closed loop test that can establish the steady state empirical temperatures achievable as distinct from all the theoretical modelling that has gone on before. It would make an interesting schoolboy project to plot the surface temperatures each day and to see them rise asymptotically to a particular steady state level. Monitoring will occur at various points on the loop. Will we be let in on the progressive detail? Loop test completion about mid August.
2. A 1 MW turbine/ generator is very small. It would fit on the back of a truck. The heat exchanger and aircooler are already on site. A contractor would need to tender, construct generator building, fully install and commission the plant. Besides the issues of weather and long distance transport of parts is there any good reason why this should not be achieved in 5 months? The connection of Innamincka is a separate issue but for public relations purposes becomes critically important. The 'opening' of the plant and the formal switching on of the 'light globe' will have to be performed by Mr Rudd and Mr Ferguson whether we like them or not. This will be only three months after Ross Garnaut comes out with his long awaited Report. What a grand opportunity for Mr Rudd to make a statement in response and establish his green credentials after all. (We have to help make that happen.)
3. Jol 1 is almost there already. As Geojac mentioned, they now know how to swing that drill. General investor publicity may not find this very important since drilling success is now hohum but as a stepping out well and establishing a reserve estimate it is of great value. The less Government funding is available the more GDY needs to depend on such classical evidence that banks and capital markets might accept. Potential institutional investors would also take note. We really need them.
Hence the media will respond the most to 2 with a good effort from 1 if management handles it right. The SP will strongly follow the publicity at this stage.
For survey purposes I give 100% probability to each: Y, Y, Y.
