Premium hard coking coal trades above $230 per tonne in seaborne market
Seaborne coking coal prices surged on Wednesday December 6, with a cargo of premium low-vol product being traded above $230 per tonne fob Australia, market sources said.
The cargo was sold at $232 per tonne fob Australia, sources told Metal Bulletin. Another cargo of premium hard coking coal was offered around $235 per tonne fob Australia, and buying interest is said to be closer to $220 per tonne fob. Market sources said buying interest for spot cargoes was strong among end-users in India and Japan amid tight Australian supply due to port congestion, which sparked the recent fob Australia price rally.
