Most of the problems of today did not exist in the pre-sixties that is true. Unfortunately however there were a few other serious problems pre-sixties.
IMO the various governments did try to fix the old problems but as usual when governments interfere they fix one thing but open up a whole world of new problems because of inappropriate fixes. The present problems of welfare dependance and substance abuse began about 40 years ago and became an epidemic.
