Yes, but what happens when they start to relax restrictions. You can't keep people locked up forever. As soon as they relax it goes straight up again (see fresh articles below). Why? Because there's no real solution "implemented" to actually prevent the spread yet. Eventually governments will have to realise that or risk mass rebellion.

Most European countries have gone through about three cycles or more of ups and downs in cases. As soon as they relax restrictions it goes gang busters again. There are no preventions, only vaccines to mitigate the effects and they soon risk loosing the race too, or probably staring global conflict. I'm not sure which will come sooner.
