"We are delighted to have continued success in the second well of the 2002 Mauritania drilling programme. The Banda exploration well is a significant new oil and gas discovery in a different style of hydrocarbon trap to the Chinguetti-1 discovery and confirms the potential of the offshore Muaritania basin. The Banda discovery has at least a 23 metre oil leg which is interpreted from 3D seismic to occur over a large area. The discovery is in only 300m of water depth.".
