The number of people involved in geological studies, mapping, drilling, sampling, analysis, development of reports, managing logistics, administration, financial matters, etc, etc and then the exponential number of who knows who, friend of a friend, extended family.
Of course it happens.
Sometimes even without intent, just pure enthusiasm would be enough I would think.
Very easy to read if you know the signals.
