A retired judge who made key immigration decisions for the Australian government has excoriated Labor's "appalling" deportation bill as morally and legally suspect.
Tom Wodak, who worked for immigration ministers from both sides of politics as an arbiter on removals of non-citizens, said the Albanese government was competing with the Coalition over "who can impose more cruelty".
