A nurse told me that the apparent inbuilt brain mechanism to tell you to drink gets weaker as you get older, so effectively, you forget to drink water. I suppose with so much going on in our heads (plus the ingestion of dehydrating alcoholic and caffeine containing drinks), we are very likely to find ourselves dehydrating without it fully sinking in. I now make a point before going to bed of having at least two glasses of water. I think sleeping with the mouth open etc wouldn't help with stopping excessive moisture loss at night. If you go to sleep after getting a skinful of alcohol, it's not a bad idea to drink two plus glasses of water.... also take some to bed with you. A mate of mine also has a Berocca before he goes to bed if he's been drinking as the water soluble vitamins, B and C get flushed out during the frequent weeing whilst drinking.
