I then consider - again - installing a proper wood-burning stove, (not a good idea for a woman living on her own, though - chopping of wood required, storing, handling it etc.) Today I came upon a cheap good-as-new pellet stove (almost unused) for $1000, made in Italy and looking very chique and efficient too. Do any of you have any experience with pellet stoves - and the cost of running those? Price of pellets etc. cleaning up? Any suggestions welcome. Greetings Taurisk

Talk to your local heater shop, google comparison sites (pellet vs wood). Though more effort overall required, imo nothing compares to heating your home with a wood heater.
