I have the impression (maybe mistakenly) that the custodian of the the super fund would only allow its shares to be shorted if it was confident that the said company been shorted is only suffering a short-term not terminal set-back.Remember super is a long term investment and many of Australia's super funds were heavily invested in Centro.

By allowing the hedge funds to borrow their stock allows the super fund to collect a fee. Better that than having all these fund managers abandoning the Centro register
