A very sensible approach whatsup, but what if we are looking at one of those "once-in-a-lifetime" situations?

If silver goes to $500/oz (as some have speculated, not just my imagination) then the hedge isn't going to look so good...

My dad would agree with you (he's been wanting me to sell my currently flying stocks to settle the mortgage, but when I can make 10% per week, I think that offsets 8% per year) - it is a valid position, but the opportunity cost might be too great.
