I think hedging now is a smart move by AIS (disclosure: I also own AIS).
In my view the POG has some risk to the downside for the years to come:
1. POG is mainly driven by real interest rates. Both, short term and long term real interest rates in the US are very close to historical lows. Mean reversion must set in at some point.
2. While I think that the invasion of Ukraine is a catastrophe from a human, political, economic and security perspective, from a purely financial perspective I think that the geopolitical tensions have reached a peak during these days.
3. It looks like global liquidity will decline during the next few years. This won't help the POG either.
