Mrs Rylah to move—That the House:—

(1) Notes the courageous and professional way Venture Minerals Limited has set about
exploring for minerals in their mining lease on the West Coast over the last 4 years.

(2) Acknowledges that:—

(a) the company has spent over $40 million in shareholder funds in undertaking
exploration, and preparatory studies and approvals; and

(b) the company has endured seven false-starts to the Riley Mine project at
enormous cost because of legal challenges to approvals obtained from
government making a mockery of the current lengthy and expensive
approvals process.

(3) Recognises that the Riley Mine was a very small mine area which is located in
previously mined and disturbed land and would have resulted in fully revegetated and
rehabilitated land in less than 6 months from each section being mined.

(4) Notes that if this mine had gone ahead at the time it was approved by both the
Tasmanian and Commonwealth Governments in 2013, Venture Minerals would now
be pumping $40 million per annum into the Tasmanian economy and employing 60-
70 people in direct jobs plus the numerous flow-on jobs.

(5) Condemns the actions of the ‘anti-everything’ groups like ‘Save the Tarkine’,
stopping legitimate business creating jobs and a future for Tasmanians.

(6) Contends that if the company was fully operational today Treasury would already
have significant and growing additional revenue flowing from this project. (19 March 2015)
