heirloom tomatoes ... need to know

The Definition of heirloom tomatoes, many varities that were growm decades ago looked ugly, lines on them but busted with taste, , until supermarkets had massive amounts grown as standard and as as quick as possible ..result .. looks good tastes like crap ..Heirlooom are now available in seed form from many outlets, the same price as the run of the mill varities, there are about 20 varities of heirloom , and the reason I mention this is because they are four times tastier than massed produced produced .. I know for a fact that most top resturants in Melb. pay $15 a kilo and that consists of all colours and sizes ,But the bottom line is the taste .. Also there is a saying put your plants in by melb cup day , But You can also put another lot in by mid Jan .. thats what the commercial growers do, there is still 3 months of growing conditions ....
