Indeed, GRV's reserves as well as future Global reserves are important considerations. IMO, in the Helium market the key variable is Qatar's country risk. Specifically, even though Qatar could easily address the future helium needs of the Japanese and Taiwanese Chip manufactures, it would be political/economic suicide to do so for these countries as well as the Western world. Thus, helium users should pay more attention to their supply portfolio from safe sources such as Australia and North America.
Why?...The 6/2017 blockade against Qatar by Saudi Arabia,UAE,Egypt and Bahrain. This illegal action cut off importers from most of Qatari helium which was being transported via truck to the Jebel Ali port. Qatar was able to use the Hamad port (or New Doha) with a significant number of logistics challenges which affected approximately 2000 container ship loads or about 2 BCF. Since then, Qatar has added new terminals and in 2022 it handled about 1.5 million containers of all types. Despite the significantly added infrastructure, this crisis proved beyond reasonable doubt Qatar's high country risk due to its vulnerable location in an unstable part of the world. Thus, the Amadeus basin helium future developers (Greenvale plus 3 others already announced) should be a safe and convenient alternative.BTW, I do not know enough about the Linde facility to conclude whether it could play an important role in the Australian helium strategy.
