i think what Toph was trying to say is that it is a re/balancing of fund managers regarding there portfolio
which happens every quarter for stocks in the aud200....
now the absulate mecahnics how it works i am not 100 % sure ....however it does happen on the second last friday of the months of march june sept and dec....however i believe today was a double wammy with the korean news plus the re balancing hence the 14.38% rise ....thats great
also the short covering helped....but make no mistake without the re balancing on the auction....close of 8.35 would not of happenend....but still would have been great day....
