I agree wholeheartedly that we need to learn lessons and need to impliment more prevention.
That doesn't mean that many of those that lost properties did the wrong things. I read that some homes did have sprinklers on the roof and gutters were clear. There was a time in history when there were no sprinklers on roofs and no one had pumps.
But sure, we need more. And sure not enough was done by councils govts etc. How many people died in cars because the road was blocked by a tree? Why on earth is there a tree within 50 metres of a road edge?
