Unfortunately hind sight is a beautiful thing.
While my prayers and throughs and financial support go out to all who have lost loved ones and property in this tragedy, in the cold hard light of day, it is a sad reality that many have not adequately assessed their risks and identified the necessary controls (including realistic departure plans) when living in these areas, and have paid the ultimate price.
No one will argue that you cannot hold back a fire storm @ 46degC with 80km/h winds, so surely it is everyone's responsibility (on an individual level) to consider the risks, have a plan that covers all scenarios and stick to it.
One can only hope that government at all levels, insurance companies and residents act on the lessons from this to prevent another such tragedy.
In a passing thought 2 weeks ago, it crossed my mind therewould be some serious fires in Vic if this continues; and then didn't give it another thought until the weekend. I wish I had been wrong . .
