I would hope (but don’t expect) that when all of the Middle East theocracies look at ISIS (in horror) they will see glimpses of themselves in the mirror.
The House of Saud institutionalised their place within a state religion that masquerades as Islam. On the other sides of divide Iran (and yes the Israel) have to varying degrees done the same. So what is supposed to be a personal journey can now become an institutionalised justification for iron fisted, totalitarian dictatorship.
The old saying ... “render unto Caesar what belongs to Caesar” suggests the importance of separating religion from the mechanisms of the state. Would you agree that politics and religion (any religion) are an extremely bad mix?
