Re: the "going over the top"/battle analogy

I feel it could be an apt analogy if we are considering the new weapon that we're leaving the trench with... It seems to combine with existing weapons to deliver more ammunition than previous weapons. It has performed well in previous trials, and those with more knowledge of its performance are describing it as encouraging and exciting. There are new well regarded, high powered generals who have left other successful battles and gathered to help take this new weapon forward into this new battle.

There's absolutely no guarantee that this weapon will work as expected, and there are those who describe this point in time as a gamble. If it doesn't work there'll be significant casualties, but for some, it's certainly worth the risk, as the potential upside if it does work could be tremendous given that there is a vast array of older weapons fighting in a variety of battles that could be transformed with the new combination technology...
