    trading platforms are free.

I am pretty well up to speed with IG Markets so can assist there but warn you now that FX trading is about as close to gambling as you get and we all know how many successful gamblers there are.
It is addictive, good fun and if managed correctly can be fruitful but the overwhelming desire to seek out the holy grail is strong.
Resist and apply good trading practise and your account may last a bit longer.
A couple of questions to consider before embarking on this journey and a couple of hard and fast rules to live by.

Firstly a couple of rules that I am sure others will add to.

    1. There is no bloody holy grail. There is no system to beat the system. There is no indicator or set up or technique or auto trading system that can beat the system so don't waste your time looking for it.
    2. If you think stocks can trade illogically then you haven't seen anything. Be prepared for unexplainable share spikes and declines especially in lower time frames (less than a day)

    My questions would be

    1. Why? What are you attempting to achieve? Can you quantify it in a trading plan (not a 'hope' list)
    2. What time frames are you looking to trade over and are you planning on being a fundamental trader or technical trader?
    3. How much are you prepared to invest in education before trading? Time not cost is important here. Most useful stuff is actually free if you are prepared to put in the time researching.
4 How much can you afford to lose? Whilst the margin is very attractive the volatility can destroy an account very quickly. Volatility though is a traders friend for without it there is no market to trade.

my thoughts would be to read and ask questions have you have done here. Play with a demo account for a couple of weeks only just to get a feel of the software. Then open a real account for $1,000 and research a list of brokers. They all have good and bad reviews with some worse than others. It seems to appear a bit dependent on where you trade from. I use IG Markets and get my funds paid out next day or day after. Payments in can be instantaneous via credit card.
Start with minis. $1.00 per contract. It is real money but won't break you while you get experience.
The opportunity for quick dollars on small margins is so tempting that most fall into the trap of becoming gamblers or 'scalpers'. Most fail.

best of luck with it should you decide to proceed.

There is plenty of help available on HC :)
