Lumwana uranium resource estimate

Equinox Minerals has released an independent evaluation of the uranium resource at its Lumwana copper-cobalt project in northwestern Zambia. The indicated uranium resource within the optimised (Malundwe and Chimiwungo) open pit designs is 7.2 Mt at 0.083% U3O8, containing 13.09 million pounds of U3O8. The current pit designs hold defined copper reserves of 205.3 Mt at 0.79% copper. The estimation, which formed part of the bankable feasibility study on the project. was made using a uranium price of US$11 per pound U3O8. The uranium occurs in discrete zones that could be mined separately during the copper mining operation, and metallurgical testwork has indicated recoveries of 97%. Equinox said that any decision on the development of the uranium resources would not affect its current work programme for Lumwana, which is scheduled to begin copper concentrate production in 2007.
