Jujutrain and Kalimaya, you are both on the money. In exploration (or mine drilling for that matter) the drill holes should be positioned to drill across strike, i.e. if the rocks are running north south the drill should be drilling east west. If the rocks dip to the east you should drill west and vica versa to get a better estimate of true thickness. In all cases the drill core or chips will be geologically logged and where necessary assayed.
