Thanks for all your help. On my (admittedly cursory) whizz through Yahoo it seemed that they wanted me to pay them money to be able to access my yahoo mail through outlook.

My saga with hotmail continues. Once I changed the password to 8 characters I can now access the mail fine from outlook. But would you believe it, now my old hotmail (the one cluttered with equipment enlargement emails) won't download in outlook. Aaaaaaarrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!
